Dinagat Island Shangri-la of Adventures

Dinagat Islands is an island group comprising a province in the Philippines, located on the south side of Leyte Gulf and once part of the province of Surigao del Norte. Leyte is to the west, across Surigao Strait, and Mindanao is to the south. Dinagat is about 60 km from north to south.

Best known for its great rock climbing sites and white sand beaches, it is the country's 81st and newest province and the fifth in the Caraga Region.

The province, situated almost entirely on Dinagat Island, is a Shangri-La of adventurers. Its caves, rock formations and mountain lakes provide a perfect ambience for the thrill seeker and highly-strung individuals. It is also the seat of the greatest and historic Battle of Surigao Strait during the World War II and the entry point of the American Liberation forces before the momentous return of Gen. Douglas MacArthur in Leyte.

The province is known as one of the archipelago's holiest sites in the Pre-Christian native religion. It is here where the god of hurricanes was persuaded to relent his attacks on the islands by Da, the god of peace.

Great job. We need more pictures and videos of new Dinagat province in this website. I live in far plank of western hemisphere but my heart and soul are always in San Jose. I love San Jose very much because of its crystal waters, pristine mountains and the friendly and God fearing people. I have been in so many places in the world but there’s no place like San Jose. Let us keep Dinagat province a true pearl of the orient. The long wait is over and the DREAM is finally comes to a reality. Mabuhay ang DINAGAT province.

Mabuhay ang Dinagat island! Hi I am Prime (frenz_24@yahoo.com)... taga Davao ko pero diha ko natawo sa dinagat... I was so young when I and my family left the place... My mother had told me beautiful stories about dinagat... and 'till now they were still vivid... now I am presently writing a story dedicated for dinagat people... I am hoping I can finish it before the end of the year... I hope I can post it also here... I just wonder if 'babaeng bukid' and 'lalaking bukid' are really real... mama had told me 'bout them... and also the rock that looks like a ship on the middle of the sea... are they true? I was 4 when we changed residence so I could not really picture them out! I can only remember the clear sea water in libjo, the islets... that made the sea different from those seas located in the archipelago...

Mabuhay Dinagat, my body is here but my heart and sould redides there!

Hello from Idaho!
The last scene in this movie shows a wood slat roof to the right. It is a covered community deck over the water with benches all around and a little snack bar store. The older people and the little children come and sit there in the mornings and evenings. Play their instruments or have coffee and sweet rolls they buy at the bread store up the street.

I sat there many days when it was hot and visited with all the neighbors and the little children.

I wish I could find out more about some of the islets across from San Jose, especially Sibanac Island.

I cannot seem to find any pictures of that island, or Unib Island. Perhaps they have other names. The names Sibanac and Unib are what is on Google Earth.

I dream of retiring in that area within the next year. I wish there were more pictures of all the islands just west of San Jose.

Also, what is the name of the small town on Sibanac island ... and ... is there a large resort on the southern tip of Unib Island? The beach looks beautiful there on Google Earth.

Also, I recently heard that an American and his Filipina wife bought Bitaog Beach. Is that true? If so, do you know how much they paid for that beautiful place? Will they put their private home there, or keep it available for thre locals as a resort?
