News: Dinagat isle aims to be a 'Singapore'

SURIGAO CITY -- Inspired by Singapore's first World status, the local leadership in Dinagat Island said it is aiming to transform their province into a little Singapore someday.

Surigao del Norte Provincial Board Member Elvis Dela Merced said this after being recommended as Interim Vice Governor by the Dinagat Island Association of Local Government Units (DIALGU) composed of seven municipal mayors and vice mayors, seventy municipal councilors and more than 1,000 barangay officials.

Other interim officials endorsed by DIALGU in their letter recommendation submitted to President Arroyo recently were; Geraldine Ecleo Villaroman, daughter of Surigao del Norte First District Representative Glenda Ecleo as interim Governor and eight interim Provincial Board Members most of them are current and former Dinagat local officials. Unless the government will make sure illegal drugs will be wipedout, Dinagat will soon be cocain Columbia or opium Afganistan country. Policing San Jose itself is very difficult. Never know.. we will just see what will happen in the next year.

Those who genuinely advocate of peace and progress in Dinagat province particularly to the PBMA members should set a good example and lead the way to follow. Since most if not all the appointed officials to run Dinagat province belongs to the above group.

I believed to that vision bro, One little thing we can help is to support the interim lokal government of DI. & They'r right, DI has many technical/professional people abroad specially in ths USA, Midle East, Canada and elsewhere. What lacks to this moment are the basic needs, like 24/7 electricity, cemented roads, employments, etc. Pero sa nakita ko sa mga real projects, it seems na all of the above needs ay makukuha. Then the real developments starts...

24/7 electricity for DI was one of the many promises i heared during the elections after the people power 1. 20 years after we are still dreaming of it.
well, there is a grant from a foreign nation and i challenge the leaders to prove to the people that they can manage projects well (free from corruptions) so that these nations will continue to help us. LET'S NOT DISSAPPOINT THEM!

webmaster i would like to suggest that if possible libjo live will also make a directory for our professionals and skilled workers stating their names, field of expertise and maybe a brief description of their experiences.
this will help the government and investors to look for workers when projects/developments start.

Thanks for the suggestion. We will soon add a kind of Job Bank for Dinagat Island. We are still looking for ways how to automate the search and ways how to input the data. This will be a move to support "One Family, One OFW" program from our provincial government. BTW, we have a FREE Java programming course at LibjoLIVE! in Libjo starting January 12, 2007.

That's a good dream!!!! but to make it come true people of Dinagat must wake up!!!

Most if not all of the Interim officials are Ecleos.. name change so it will not look like solo ra nila. Do you think this is a fair government? Do you think palakasan will not be practice anymore? I hope GMA will not approve such set of officials. Daghan na kaayo gikulata kay mag apil apil sa gobyerno, naa na gani gi pusil kay gusto maapil sa setup sa sanguniang panglalawigan.

If the officials of Dinagat "province" are as tough and as smart as Lee Kuan Yew.... there's no doubt it can be done... but LOOK who are the officials running the show now? are they good enough? I DONT THINK SO... Wake up people of Dinagat

Very ambitious. The LGU of Dinagat should first focus on achievable goals rather than setting a highly improbable target.

It is impossible for Dinagat to achieve such status, unless it will secede from the Philippines.

Can you tell me what are the DI officials capacity?

I will tell you LEE KUAN YEW graduated in Cambridge University in UK. Does anyone of the DI officials has that qualification?

Are the people of dinagat dreaming?focus first in the development of Dinagat before dreaming the impossible dream.Dinagat cannot separate from the philippines because the philippine territory is defined to include dinagat islands, meaning the philippine government has territorial jurisdiction over it.

first thing you need,in order to achieve anything at all (in business, politics or anywhere else) is ... a basic perception of reality ! And a vague idea of what is- and what is not achievable, given the set of conditions ,the context you're working in. Whoever claims to be turning Dinagat into a second Singapore is obviously living in a dreamworld and in my humble opinion... unfit for public office.
